Newborn FAQs

The earlier the better! It is never too early to get on my schedule. I have limited openings a month so I highly encourage you to book as soon as you can to guarantee a spot in my schedule. Most clients book in the second or early third trimester.
Ideally within the first two weeks. I prefer to see them between 10-18 days. Babies are usually the sleepiest and more flexible from being in mom's tummy. They are more posable for the duration of their session during this period. A few days before your session, you will be emailed a prep guide to optimize the outcome of the shoot.
Once you book your session, I will put your due date and tentatively plan on doing the shoot either two weeks earlier or two weeks later. This is one of the reasons why I take a limited amount of shoots. This allows me to have some wiggle room in case your baby decides to come early, on time or late. I ask that you or someone you appoint to, lets me know immediately as soon as baby is born so we can choose a definitive date.
Newborn sessions take place in my home studio. The studio is cozy and I have everything I need. I want you to feel at home, sit and relax while we take care of your precious baby and capture those fast fleeting early moments. I have a waiting area and a shooting area but you are always steps away from your baby.
It's definitely possible to capture your baby after two weeks, however, the images might not be similar to the curly, unswaddled images you see on my website. Once they are older than two weeks babies are usually less sleepy and wake up much easier. The photos we capture might be more awake shots and plan for swaddled set ups, which are still gorgeous.
This varies depending on the baby, how closely the prep guide was followed, and package you choose. The session can last 2-3 hours. It can take as much as 3.5 hours if siblings are involved. The session will be baby led and will do the poses baby allows me to do. I do not rush the session and allow the baby to take feeding breaks if necessary. Your baby's comfort and safety is my number one priority.
I do. I always try to capture great sibling shots but at the end of the day it all comes down to what they let me do. It's important for parents to not set high expectations when sibling is younger than 3 years old. I will try my best to capture amazing sibling shots but if it proves unsafe for your newborn, I will move on. There are ways to prep your toddler for the session as well and I can discuss it before your shoot.
I do. You get a discounted rate if booked at the time of your newborn session. They can be every 3 months, but I recommend 6, 9 and 12 months. Babies grow so much in those first 12 months, it's neat to see how much they have grown at each milestone session.
I have been photographing babies for the past five years. I take at least one workshop every year to update and continue improving my skills to be able to better serve you. Safety is of most importance and I make sure I review a course on safety every year. I am also CPR certified.
All you need to do is show up! I provide everything I'll need for the session. I have pretty much every color backdrop you can think of and a variety of color set ups to choose from. Fortunately for you, I am addicted to newborn props and have lots of bonnets, headbands, and props to choose from. If you have something special you want me to include I ask to please let me know in advance so I can prepare for it and I will do my best to try and incorporate them into your session.
I kindly ask for a retainer to hold your due date on my calendar. I only take a few shoots a month so this will officially reserve you a spot. The remainder balance is due at the end of the session. I accept cash, check, PayPal and venmo.
My turnaround is usually 3 weeks or 4 on busier months. I do try my best to get them to you sooner but it all depends on the season. I would like to think that its always worth the wait as I don't rush the post processing process. If you would like a few photos for announcements, please let me know and I can certainly accommodate for that.
